I had the pleasure of spending time with the children of the Institution Mixte du Progrès – Kindergarten – Primaire – Desab Haiti but noticed something that makes a children’s author’s heart break. The school did not have books for the children.
The Haitian government does not support schools but they do require that schools charge a tuition, and that all students must wear uniforms, have proper shoes and proper back packs.
School libraries are not a big priority when many are struggling just to pay teachers. As a big fan of literacy I am having a book drive for the school.
They are in need of French children’s books both fiction and non-fiction, teacher’s resources and any books on school administration.
If you’d like to donate a book or money for shipping please email me for details on how to get it to me.
